A victory after 7 years of struggle

On 16 th December, 2012 in South Delhi a 23-year-old girl was travelling in a bus along with her male friend when she was   gang raped , tortured and murdered by six men aboard .  The incident was so heinous and brutal that it led to an uproar all over the world. It touched the conscience of each and every citizen of India. This case brought people out on streets, not just demanding safety laws but forcing every home to mull on the otherwise tabooed issue of gender violence. The case was given the name of ‘Nirbhaya’ that means ‘fearless’ by the media. A total of six people were convicted, out of which one accused being a juvenile was released after a three-year reform facility. The four convicts, Akshay, Pawan, Vinay and Mukesh were convicted for raping and murdering the victim. The sixth convict, Ram Singh died during the trial. The case was investigated by IPS Chhaya Sharma. Karuna Nundy was the lawyer of the victim. The victim died on 29 th December,
